Today I had the best experience I have ever had with a gunsmith. I met John Larson of JPL Precision
at the range. He handed me the gun and told me to shoot it. He hardly said a word as he let me run
through some drills. After about 200 rounds he asked what needed to be tuned. I mentioned a few things
that I wanted different. He said, great follow me to the shop.
At his shop he changed out a few things and he made some really good suggestions. Then we went back to
the range and shot it again. John was not happy until I said, that's it.... It was such a pleasure to
work with someone who wanted to build me the gun I wanted. My last gun was built by a gunsmith that
told me if I couldn't shoot it the way he built it, I needed to learn how to shoot. This didn't set
well and was actually funny, as I thought, “gee, I made Master not knowing how to shoot. Once I learn
I will be awesome.”
Sure nice to have a 9 major that FUNCTIONS!!. I never thought I would go back to a 5” but after
shooting a violent commander, I was glad to. Thanks again John.

I think JPL is one of the best kept secrets in our game. He builds guns that look great and
run great, he's a great guy and he's totally into building a gun you'll be happy with.
I had a hiccup a couple of months back, my Open gun was barfing (that's the technical term ;-)) at
totally random intervals, in a way I'd never seen before, no rhyme or reason, and (of course) it
was happening the week before a big match.
I called him up on the way home from a club match, made arrangements to bring it by the next day, he
met me at a local indoor range so that he could see what it was doing, and he had it diagnosed and
fixed and back to me in plenty of time for the big match.
I know there are lots of ’smiths out there, but... all things being equal, service like this is
what puts John head and shoulders above the rest. I can't imagine what it would have been like if
I had had to call up one of the "big shops" and try to describe the hiccup over the phone.
John built my major-9 gun, and it just runs and runs and runs - in fact, what convinced me that
major-9 was a viable choice was seeing him shoot *his* major-9 open gun and seeing it just run
and run and run.
Count me as a happy customer of JPL Precision!

John works on my Caspian and I have to say that he is incredible. It's a passion for him and he
is the consummate perfectionist. When he gets the 5-year backlog and American Handgunner cover, I
can always say I knew him when!

John does absolutely stunning work (my ‘Illuidium Q36 Explosive Space Modulator” .40 SVI being
but one example), and he's saved my life a couple of times on major fixes on
impossibly short notice. Class work, class guy
you WON'T be disappointed!
